Luann Dummer Center for Women
Our Center (the LDCW) addresses the needs and aspirations of women. We welcome students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage with our programs and resources. These services foster the intellectual, personal, and spiritual development of women, in addition to promoting an open and diverse culture at the University of St. Thomas. The LDCW was established in 1993 by a special bequest from Dr. Luann Dummer’s estate.

2024 Women's History Month Speaker
Alison Bechdel
Since 1994, the LDCW has hosted a Women's History month speaker in March, offering our community an opportunity to engage with a distinguished woman speaker.
Our 2024 speaker was internationally beloved and critically acclaimed cartoonist, Alison Bechdel. Bechdel's analysis has been popularized in common parlance, like the 'Bechdel Test,' a measurement of gender bias in film. Her graphic memoir, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, was adapted into a Broadway musical and won five Tony Awards.

We offer students, faculty, staff and community members a wide variety of opportunities to further the mission of our Center while fulfilling their own intellectual curiosities.
Events
Our Center hosts and creates events engaged in a variety of disciplines, from biology to journalism. Learn more about our upcoming regular programming, like our monthly Book Circles and Making Waves as well as our weekly Yarn Tamers sessions in Tommie Link.

The LDCW carries a vast collection of books—from novels to essays—that highlight women throughout history.
Art Collection
Inspired by Luann’s own collection, the Center holds diverse works including painting, pottery, sculpture, photography, book arts, weaving, quilting, beadwork, mixed media and a grave rubbing.

Elizabeth Wilkinson
Associate Professor: American Culture and Difference, English, Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies
Dr. Liz Wilkinson’s teaching and research brings together seemingly divergent interests in indigenous literature, feminism and sports. A former college athlete herself, Dr. Wilkinson is writing an article about 19th and 20th century female athletes and women’s suffrage, and a book on sports and feminism.
