Peace Engineering
The Peace Engineering Minor brings justice and peace studies analysis and engineering technical skills together to find the best way for engineers to serve people and advance the common good. You’ll work collaboratively to develop innovative, sustainable solutions to improve lives all over the world.
Why Study Peace Engineering at St. Thomas?
The St. Thomas Peace Engineering Minor may be combined with any undergraduate engineering degree (i.e. civil, computer, electrical or mechanical). Peace engineers work on projects such as developing energy and water resources, bringing technology to areas of conflict or natural disaster, advocating for public safety in engineering decisions and implementing agricultural tools to fight poverty and hunger. These examples are just the beginning of what you might accomplish as a peace engineer.

Michael Miller '20
The mission to serve the farmers of the Andes has turned into growing career aspirations for St. Thomas alumnus Michael Miller '20, who is now in graduate school at Colorado School of Mines preparing for a career in orthopedics and medical device design.
“There’s a lot of overlap with the kind of empathic engineering I experienced in the Sacred Valley and the art of creating medical devices,” Miller said. “It’s simple, I’m making something for somebody, and I want my device to really improve their quality of life.”
